A first-edition “Gatsby” without the jacket might cost only a few thousand dollars. But a copy with a decent quality original jacket, with its unusual artwork, sold some years ago for $250,000. By one assessment, there may be only five Gatsby first-editions on the market that have their book jackets still intact.
