This handmade ballot box was used in Erhards Grove Township from about 1928 to 1940.
The word โ€œwhiteโ€ handwritten on the box is not a racial reference but may refer to a circumstance where voters were asked to deposit a white-colored ballot in one box and a separate box for a ballot of a different color.
